destinybydesignIt’s the end of the year and like many people I am doing a lot of reflection on my life. It’s nothing depressing or anything like that because I have had an incredible year. This time of reflection is meant to help me decide what direction I want my life to take in 2009. What will I do that is life changing; will I go some place that I’ve never been before, who will I meet? The cool thing is that I get to choose the direction I want my life to take.

Choosing my Destiny

I get to set goals and begin planning my life to meet those goals. Some people make the goal and planning process too complicated. As a single mom I don’t have time for overly complex planning. I think I’ve mentioned that I might be ADD before because my attention span is just not that long. So my planning consists of making lists. I love list because I get to check things off, but my list has to be pretty short or else it gets that complicated feel again.

So creating a short list of important things I want to do, be, and have in 2009 is necessary. When I focus on a few things I feel more accomplished once I’ve reached my goals. Another cool thing is that I can add things to the list after I cross the first things off. When I look back over the year in December 2009 I will see that I’ve done far more than I intended to so that feeling of success is compounded.

Theme it Up

Right now I have 10 things on my list. They are all related in a way and involve making more money, but also having meaningful and rich relationships. Another theme is simplifying my life. I think it’s pretty important to have a theme or two for the year. When you do this you focus your efforts better and avoid getting pulled in so many directions.

Easy and Simple Technique

It doesn’t have to be a complicated theme just something simple like love more, simplify, adventure, self-development. You could take that theme and create a goal in five areas of your life. These areas could be relational, financial, spiritual, physical, and emotional. Applying your theme in each area of your life is pretty simple and facilitates success.

Partner with Like-Minded People

It is a good idea to review your themed goals every three months to see if you are staying on track. I suggest partnering with someone if you are finding it difficult to stay motivated. You can help each other be accountable to the task and report on your progress at regular intervals.
