Run Your Home Like a CEO

Welcome to the Positive Parenting Series where I share my single moms challenges and lessons as a single mom of two awesome kids!

When my kids were younger I had to learn a valuable lesson about how to raise them to be awesome kids despite what the press and politicians said about me as a single mom. In the beginning I thought I had to do it all and be their all. I was exhausted!

I went to school, worked, and did my best to raise them with my sanity in tact. In this four part series I will share what I learned over the years to raise them to be a couple of pretty cool kids. They are kind, respectful, loving, helpful, and accomplishing awesome things.

They are not perfect and I admit that there are times when I kick them out of my room for doing or saying silly stuff but that’s a part of being a parent. So here is how to parent single-handed, yet successfully.

Being a single mom is the toughest job in the world but it doesn’t mean you can’t be a positive parent. It’s easy to feel like you will lose it when you have to raise a child or children on your own. I want you to remember this simple thing…Your home is your business and you are the CEO not the Girl Friday. As the mom CEO You are the one who sets the goals and tasks.

CEO Mom

In the beginning you may have to do much of the work, but as your kids get older you will begin delegating tasks like a good CEO should.

Your job is to provide resources, guidance and unconditional love. Anything outside of those parameters will compromise the mission of your organization.

Keep in mind that just because you are running a company it doesn’t mean it’s all work and no play.

The best companies to work for have an awesome employee (i.e. child) appreciation program. They have play time, casual days, and incentives. This is how it can be in your home.

CEOs receive a high level of respect. This is because they contribute the most value to the organization, which brings in the most revenue.

In your case you are the most valuable player and you bring in the most (all) of the revenue. Your employees/children owe you the respect you deserve.

The best CEOs listen to their employees and do what they can to ensure they are trained, happy, and growing in a positive direction.

You will do no less if you want to raise awesome kids. Keeping the lines of communication open and making your expectations clear are also signs of great CEOs.

Companies that have loyal and happy employees are guaranteed to have forward thinking, positive, fair CEOs.

Your children will be just as loyal and happy when you live out the same traits as the world’s best CEO.

Next time I’ll talk about remembering your the optimal objective for raising kids.
