Home Wealth Cash-Strapped Gift Giving Ideas for Single Moms

A great way to give gifts inexpensively is to make them. Over the years I’ve made different things to give to family and friends when I was short on cash. I talk about one thing I did over at 31 Days of Holiday Crafts. It’s easy and brought 12 months of delight to everyone who got one.

If you are the crafting type you can do so much for so little. My mom is the crafty kind. She makes quilts, ceramic figurines, paintings (an not by numbers), and clothing. My dad is also rather creative. He used to make leather purses, belts, key fobs, and even bookmarks. I loved watching them make something out of nothing and see the delight on the receiver’s face.

If you aren’t so crafty (like me) you can still make gifts that seems like it took a lot of effort. If you keep in mind that people like to eat you can’t go wrong.

Baked Goods

Bake up some cookies and add a few extra ingredients like nuts, seeds, or dried fruit for your personal creation. If you aren’t confident or don’t have the time to make them from scratch then buy the mix that you just add eggs and butter. No one has to know your secret. Wrap them up in plastic wrap and a pretty bow then hand them out.

Cakes and pies are also a favorite. If you’ve seen the gift in a jar you know you can layer ingredients, add instructions, and top it off with a pretty ribbon. The recipient just has to mix it and bake it. There are plenty of gift jar combinations you can make that go beyond baked goods. Try it with soups and bath salts too.

There are so many other simple gifts you can make and it won’t cost more than $10 for the ingredients or supplies. I’ll share the rest of the ideas in this week’s newsletter. 1. Very true. You can never go wrong with crafts. People actually do love homemade/handmade goods. I need to keep reminding myself of this, lol

  2. I am already thinking about what I supplies I need to start making things. My kids love to get involved and see their creations. It’s also a great bonding exercise.
