If you live in the Atlanta area you know the festival season is getting into full swing. Well the arts centers are getting in on the act as well. On June 3, the Woodruff Arts Center will have a Free Community Day. Here are the details:
Community Day at The Woodruff | Sunday, June 3, 11am–5pm | Free Admission
Join us as we commemorate the anniversary with a free Community Day at The Woodruff. Activities include:
• FREE admission to the High Museum of Art
• Storytelling, puppets, music and art projects with Young Audiences
• Performances and acting workshops by the Alliance Theatre
• An instrument “petting zoo” by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
• Reading by Pearl Cleage of the poem she wrote to commemorate the Orly Anniversary
• A painting on loan from Paris’ Louvre Museum on view at the High Museum of Art
• Storytelling, puppets, music and art projects with Young Audiences
• Performances and acting workshops by the Alliance Theatre
• An instrument “petting zoo” by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

• Q&A session with Atlanta native Alfred Uhry, author of “Driving Miss Daisy”

Sunday, June 3rd marks the 50th anniversary of the plane crash at Paris’ Orly Airport that took the lives of 122 Atlanta arts patrons. This tragedy deeply affected the city and ultimately inspired the 1968 founding of The Woodruff Arts Center.
