Today our country (the USA) is installing a new president and I am very excited. This is a turning point for our country and evidence that the son of a single mom can become a great man. Barak Obama is the 44th President of the United States of America. What a great day and historical occasion.
The world is watching and discussing the great event and my eyes are glued to the TV. But I am taking a moment to reflect on the man who was raised by a determined single mom, Ann Dunham. We’ve read that it was a hard road for them both. She made sure that he studied, was well nurtured, and groomed for success. Can we do no less for our children, our sons?
With all the negative publicity lately from a certain conservative representative, single moms have been rallying together to show the world the true face of single motherhood. We are not all welfare moms sitting at home collecting a check and neglecting our children. We are not scamming the system and avoiding work. The majority of us don’t shuffle out in public with house slippers on our feet and rollers in our hair.
Instead we are dignified women who have, in some cases been forced to, made our own way. We’ve gone back to college, worked hard to provide, and succeeded despite the obstacles that our exes, the system, and in some cases our families have put in our way.
Single moms are one group of determined women who keep pushing forward because we want a better life for our kids. We have a dream that one day our sons and our daughters will become presidents, CEOs, professors, and entrepreneurs. We will not give up those dreams because we believe that even our sons and daughters can be the next President of the United States of America!

He is a perfect example. Nobody’s destiny has already been written… everyday is brand new, thus there is always an opportunity to explore and become.
