It is already the middle of the month and I haven’t posted a Side Hustle yet! Shame on me! Well I am going to correct that by giving you a new installment in the Side Hustle Series. It is simply teaching others what you are an expert at; teach whatever you know.
Your trade, profession, cooking skills, a second language, woodworking, chess, photography, knitting, karate, bridge, auto repair, etc are all valuable skills to have. People will pay good money for lessons in these useful and enjoyable skills.
The classroom does not have to be in a traditional school. If you teach people how to cook use your kitchen. If you are teaching photography the outdoors is a prime location. Teach computer skills at the student’s home. I’m sure you get the point.
Right now the place to teach is online. There are several websites that allow you to set up shop and teach a skill. Tutoring kids is the big thing but there are options for adults who want to learn online as well.
You don’t always have to teach face to face or online but through correspondence courses. Once you develop your lessons and get students you just mail out the lessons, wait for them to return, grade them and send it back.
Teaching a skill you know and love is possible under many circumstances. You are only limited by your imagination. When you are ready to begin teaching a class, post an ad on Craigslist or in your local newspaper. Keep your class size small. Make up a student guide and sell as the textbook. Let potential students know what to bring. Be well prepared, start and end on time, and give your students assignments.
if you prefer to teach in a classroom setting contact your local community or technical college about offering your services. You should first scan their catalog to see what kind of classes they offer. Additionally, you should visit their website’s employment page to see if they are seeking instructors. There are usually guidelines on the site discussing their instructor criteria. If you feel you meet the criteria submit your proposed class outline.

I wish I did have the patience to teach. I tried showing a friend the basics of crochet, you know, holding the yarn and needle, making a chain… my hand ended in a cramp and her’s looked like it was headed for one, lol.
Thanks so much for the resource! Teaching online is on my short term goal list and has long time been one of my passions.
