[Single Mom News] Erma Ruth Home for Single Moms Opens

In addition to providing a home for single women with up to three children for approximately a year, the not-for-profit Erma Ruth Home will have a house mother residing there.
Nikki Branham, executive director, explained she and Wiley Hibbard, a co-worker at Independent’s Service, saw the need and began efforts to open the home more than a year ago. Hibbard’s wife, the former Susan Atkins, is also affiliated with Independent’s Service.
Nikki explained that as a single mother of 7-year-old Brennon, “after I had my baby I was trying to better myself and I was going to school full time and working part time. If I didn’t have my parents, there is no way I would have been able to do all that.” Her parents are James and Tammie Branham, who are serving on the home’s board.
“A lot of women who find themselves in that situation want to better themselves, but there is just no way they possibly can,” Nikki continued. “I just want to help mothers out and give them a place to stay and get their feet on the ground.”
The home is named for Hibbard’s mother, Erma Ruth Poage Hibbard. Read more
