This Single Mom Soldier Pilot Rocks!

A few months ago I wrote a post sounding off on the single mom soldier who skipped out on her deployment to Iraq. That article got a lot of feedback and sparked much debate. There was no right answer then and as far as I know the young lady is no longer in the Army.
This morning I heard about another single mom soldier in the Army. This time the story had a positive spin from the single parenting perspective so it held my interest. I was really proud to hear about Chief Warrant Officer Stephanie Rose’s story.
She flies Apache helicopters and has done three tours in Iraq (she is there now). Her son is 13 ½ and throughout her time as a single parent she’s gone through the rigorous training to be a helicopter pilot. She also had dealt with being shut out for the boy’s club because she was the only woman in her class.
Her out look was very positive and a complete contrast to the now infamous Pvt. Hutchinson. She told the reporter that the first deployment was the toughest but she explained to her son that she had to follow through on her commitment no matter what. This is the message she wants him to learn about life.
Check out this single mom soldier story on NPR’s Morning Edition.
Here is a short YouTube video about female Apache helicopter pilot.
Just proves women, especially single moms can do anything with determination and action. I hope this inspires and motivates you to do the things you have always dreamed of doing.

Ms. Gregory,
I just wanted to say thank you for your kind words in your post. Quil did a wonderful job of writing a very respectful and dignified article. I would just like to point out that I am only one of several of us in the Army and I hope that this article will make more people notice. I am flattered at all of the positive and supportive comments posted, and tickled that there are so many people that feel so passionate about the subject. To all the hard workin’ single mommas….Thank you for doing what you do! Kids are the reason we are here, and the reason we do what we do! You go GIRLS!

Great post and a true inspiration even to moms who aren’t single. It speaks volumes to the power of women. Nothing worth having in life is easy, sacrifices are always made. I applaud the women soldiers, the single moms, and even moms who strive to do the best for themselves and their family. I think it is better to raise children in a happy and loving home, if that means being single the so be it. The damage caused to our children being raised in an unhappy home filled with anger is far worse than having to deal with a divorce.
I applaud all of you! I admire your strength!
Thank you Stephanie for all that you do for us. Youre so awesome! Hugs and kisses!
