Home Single Motherhood How Thankgiving Day Can Make Your Dreams Come True!

How to Make Dreams Come True on ThanksGiving DayHappy Thanksgiving from my family to yours! As you celebrate this day with family and/or friends you should know that your dreams can begin coming true by following these simple steps.

Today is the day that most people take the time to say what they are thankful for. Many repeat the same thing they said last year and maybe add one or two more things. This year I’d like for you to do something slightly different. In giving thanks think about your past, your present and your future.

Your Past
As you remember the events that happened since last Thanksgiving write down the big and small successes you had. Say, “I am thankful for ________” as you read each item on the list.

For me, the things I’d list from the past year include:

  1. Attending a life changing retreat
  2. Updating the Rich Single Momma website regularly
  3. Letting go of a dead end relationship
  4. Being able to work from home full-time

So I’ll say, “I’m thankful for attending a life-changing retreat this year”. Then I’ll go down the list and say how thankful I am for each success. For some it may seem like nothing good happened over the last year, but if you think hard and long enough you will find a few things.

Your Present
The next thing to do is think about your life today. Are you breathing, healthy, walking, talking, driving? Are your children laughing, playing, getting on your nerves, eating? Are your family and friends around you or did they call you to wish you Happy Thanksgiving? Every situation may not apply but the point is to look around you and count the blessing you have this very moment.

As with the events/successes of the past say, “I’m thankful that today ______________”. The point of these exercises is to move you toward your dreams. Thanksgiving Day is the first step because its the day everyone expects to express how thankful they are.

When you are thankful you feel better. You open your heart to remember the good things that has happened in the past and is happening in the present. With this open heart you are able to move on to the next step, being thankful for the future, which is a key to making your dreams come true.

Your Future
So by now your heart should be open and joyful because you have truly been blessed. You’ve given thanks for the past and the present, now it’s time to think about the future. Write down 3-5 things you want to happen in your life over the next year. These are your dreams. Make one or two of these easily attainable and the rest something you really have to reach for.

For example you may want to start reading more, after all knowledge is power, so there is power in reading informational books. So set a goal to read a book a month. That would be twelve small goals accomplished in that one goal!

You may set a goal to walk for exercise for 30 days. I did a 30-day challenge a few months ago and felt great that I could accomplish that goal. I lost a few pounds too and can fit into clothes that had gotten too tight because I hadn’t exercised.

Larger goals should be included on your list too. You may want to take a cruise or other vacation this year. Write it down. You may want to take one or two courses to learn a new skill for a better job. You may want to start a blog or a small business like virtual assisting or freelance writing.

After you have listed your dreams, be thankful for them. Say, “I am thankful ______________”. For example with the book goal say, “I am thankful for reading a book a month”. With the small business you may say, “I am thankful I started my freelance writing business”. It may seem funny to say you are thankful for these dreams as if they have already happened. It may seem unrealistic, but I promise you that it’s not.

How Dreams Come True
Your dreams only come true when you have, as Napoleon Hill says, a definite purpose. You make your dreams definite by speaking it. You are speaking it by saying how thankful you are for the dream even though it hasn’t happened yet. The key word is “yet”. That means it can and will happen, but it’s up to you to decide.

There is another quote that says, “As a man (or woman) thinks in his heart so is he (or she)”. You are the things you think about so think about your dreams and keep it in your heart. It will become a reality because you have given thanks for it as though it has already happened.

So this Thanksgiving day is the perfect time to begin making your dreams come true. Some people will wait until January 1, New Year’s Day, to begin thinking about their goals and making resolutions. You will have a head start though because you are thinking about it and are thankful for it now. By January 1 you will be well into living your dreams.

By this time next year your dreams will be your successes and a part of the first list instead of the last. I hope you use this day to really think about your dreams and give thanks for them knowing they will really come true!
