This has been a great week so far. Sunday night I was a guest on the CoParenting Matters show on Blogtalk Radio. The hosts were Deesha Philyaw of Coparenting101.com and Talibah Mbonisi of WeParent.com. Annie Fox, author of several books for middle school kids was the other guest. You can listen to the show archive to hear what we talked about.
On Monday I found out that I was the 13th winner of the TypeA Mom Con Business Card giveaway. I entered a couple weeks ago without much expectation of winning, but winning just proves I should always expect to win. I get to order 200 business cards for free! Yay! I love L-O-V-E free stuff. Today is the deadline to order for them to get to me in time for the conference.
Another good thing that’s happened so far this week is I received to packages in the mail. I love getting mail, especially packages. It’s like Christmas every time. So the packages were from two single mom friends who are using their talents to make extra money.
The first single mom friend is Barbara Henry. I met her (virtually) about a year ago, maybe a little longer. She has her own shop on Etsy.com where she sells baby blankets that she hand makes. Here crochet designs are lovely and I’d buy up a few if I had babies or knew someone. But I was so excited when I saw a lovely ensemble she made for her daughter. It was a pink slouch hat and matching short scarf. I had to have one for myself and my daughter so I ordered two.
I got the hats on Tuesday in the mail. They are so wonderful. I absolutely love them. My daughter did the little girl shriek when she saw them and tried one on right away. I took pictures as you can see below. How cute is that?!?!!?
The second package I got was from Lucille Tyler-Baldwin. She’s a new reader to my blog so she’s a new friend. I visited her site and her site and saw her book, “Sick and Tired of Being Broke”. I asked her if I could review it so she sent it right out and I got it on Tuesday too! Tuesday was a really good day (except my upstairs AC is not working, but that’s another story).
I’ve started reading Lucy’s book and will have a review for it up very soon. I’ll just say that I’m loving it and can highly recommend it already.
The thing I’m excited about the most is these single moms are using their talents to make extra money and bring delight to others. Just goes to show single moms can do whatever they make up their minds to do. Bring financially destitute does not have to be the norm for us. We can create the life we want.
I have a guest article coming up this week where I share 4 Ways Single Moms are Thriving. These ladies are proof that it is certainly true that we are thriving and not just surviving.
Thanks Barbara and Lucille for your contribution to the world of Savvy Single Moms!
