Home Deals How to Get Your Kids to Read with Free Books

I love books! I love so much that I keep them by my bed, on my bed, and everywhere else. Books for me are like chocolate and I can’t get enough. I admit that lately my reading time comes in the form of audio books because I have so many things pulling for my attention, but a book (physical or audio) is never far behind.

My addiction started when I as in my early teens. I was bored but wasn’t much of an outdoor person so I picked up a book and read non-stop for days. I was hooked. The love affair never ended and I even majored in English Literature, because reading just does it for me.

I’m sure you can imagine my anxiety when my daughter announced that she hated reading. She was an early reader and it was difficult for her to learn. I think many kids go through that, especially when they have better things to do.

I didn’t push her to read but visited the library often and kept books around. I took her to the bookstore and let her pick books she might enjoy. Junie B. Jones was my savior. My reluctant reader got a kick out of those books and asked for more and more. Then she moved on to the Disney Fairies stories and devoured them too.

Now that she’s older she’s gotten into the The Alex Rider Series and look for the next installment as soon as she’s finished with the latest book. She graduated to the The Chronicles of Narnia series books (one of the first I introduced to her in audio format; she was not impressed) and read all of those books.

Finally, she began reading (to my reluctance) the Twilight series. She’d tell me about the story and plot and made me promise (still unkept) to read these wonderful books.

My son is still a reluctant reader. He’d rather listen to me read, which I admit I don’t often enough. It may take a little longer to get him to engage in this fine pass time. He is very visual and can watch videos and movies for days. He can rattle off the lines to the movies he watches effortlessly. So reading holds no interests right now.

I’m going to introduce the Story Time For Me multimedia children’s books to him though. It is completely online in a semi-video format. The story is read out loud and the child can follow along.

This might be the key to unlock his love of reading. I know it sound cliche but reading truly is fundamental. So much is open to us when we read and I’d hate to have my son wander through life in ignorance.

Can you tell I’m passionate about this? I really am so I’m going to take advantage of the two free books I can get from Story Time For Me and see what happens.

I have a link you can use to get two free books for your kids. I’ll make a small amount of money from it, but consider it a donation to keep this blog up and running. I appreciate it!
