Recently I chatted with Experian’s Michael Delgado and Ms. Madam Money’s Tarra Jackson about how to moms can save money.
The Money-Saving Mom video chat was an hour of great tips and fun. I shared my ideas and tips for back to school, allowances, and savings in general. Watch the chat and leave a comment.

It’s not everyday that a 5-year-old writes a book so I had to share this with you. Kids, no matter how old (or young) can have their own side hustle and make a difference too!
Kyla McKenzie, age 5, is the coauthor along with her mother, Monique McKenzie, of the newly released children’s picture book, My God is Awesome! The great work illustrates the wondrous creations of God through the eyes of five-year-old Kyla.
Through breathtaking watercolor hand-paintings by world-renowned illustrator Dr. Jan Spivey Gilchrist and emotive text authored by the mother-daughter team, children and adults are reminded that God’s awesomeness should be appreciated and respected in life’s most simple pleasures.
This work is important because:
The book was showcased at the American Library Association Conference in Las Vegas, NV this past June.
Kyla is one of the youngest published authors on record.
The book is inspirational for children and adults.
They were intentional in selecting children of all nationalities and backgrounds as models.
The artwork by Hall-of-Famer Jan Spivey Gilchrist is simply awesome!

To get what you want, sometimes it costs money. But other times money is non-existent or limited. Sometimes we deserve to get something we want or have earned. Being creative can be a helpful tool to obtain what you have been yearning for. Follow these following steps to get yourself on the creative path!
The first step towards your creative path is to look past money and to release negative thoughts and tension. When you relax about whatever money crunch you are in, it allows you to think clearly.
The next step is to get creative and discover other ways to get what you want, especially without using your money. Sometimes bartering can be a useful tool in getting what you want. It was, after all, the first form of exchange for goods and items centuries ago. This brings us to step number three, which is to barter with people, moms, businesses, and etc to get what you want. Bartering is still practiced, and at times, it can be a preferred form of payment. Step four is to open up your creative mind and
This brings us to step number three, which is to barter with people, moms, businesses, and etc to get what you want. Bartering is still practiced, and at times, it can be a preferred form of payment.
Step four is to open up your creative mind and eyes and think of ways to get what you want without being trapped in the “not enough money” syndrome.
True needs are the bare essentials for existence like food and shelter, but sometimes obtaining these essentials is hard without enough money. Sometimes to get something you have to give something, which in the end allows everybody to win. Just like in the previous articles, giving something away can come back tenfold.
Extra money is a constant need in any family or lifestyle. With taxes, loans, credit cards, and other unavoidable expenses, a little extra cash would be pretty helpful, especially with the upcoming holidays around the corner. Consider these following tips when finding motivation and new means of getting extra cash.
In most cases, it’s almost a bad idea not to have multiple streams of income coming in. A great way to make extra money is to utilize your skills and talents and make money off of that. Doing things that you are passionate about to make extra money is good motivation, and a rewarding side hustle. If you don’t have anything you’re passionate about, try to do services or create services that people need (or want) and fulfill them. Another way to make money is by taking a class on starting your own business through your local Chamber of Commerce; you don’t have to have an MBA to run a business.
Making extra money doesn’t have to be consistent at first as long as it’s helping to meet what you need or want. Either way, having extra money can always help towards your savings or rainy day funds like mentioned in a previous article. I’m a writer. That is my hobby and my livelihood. If I couldn’t write I would go crazy because that is how I express myself in the world. I’ve learned how to turn my writing into a profitable side hustle. It took quite a few years to get off the ground as a freelance writer because, frankly it’s much easier to work in a corporate job as a technical writer. But I’ve learned how to find writing jobs and make money.
You can do the same thing. You don’t have to be a writer but you can use your talents and skills; those hobbies you love and begin making a little extra money from them. It can be done over the weekend when you have blocks of free time (meaning time away from your 9-5).
If you make jewelry or paint you can turn your creations into money making product.
Turn Your Art into Products
Everyday I come across old and new websites that let you create products from your art and sell it in a marketplace.
I know of at least two places you can go to turn your art into t-shirts, mugs, keyring, and totebags. They include:
You may sell handmade items that can’t be put on a t-shirt or mug. That’s okay because you can still sell it online. There are several marketplaces that are just for artisans like you. Check out the following websites then sign up to begin selling:
Maybe none of the ways above speak to you. You might have other ambitions or other artistic talents yet to be explored. If so you will want to check out my new guide for artists. It is called Side Hustles for the Artist Soul. It’s filled with 52 ways to make extra money on the side using your artistic talents. I’ve also included online business start-up tips to help you get the most out of the 52 ideas.
If this is something you want to do I encourage you to use this weekend to read the guide. By Monday you will have at least two ways to make extra money using your talents.
Side Hustles for the Artist Soul is only $9.99 and is available for immediate download.
