The other day I got a call from a regular reader, Kathryn, who wanted to know how to successfully promote her business online. She is part of a direct sales company and really believes in the products she has at her disposal. The problem is she has so many products to promote it is easy to get overwhelmed and lose focus. The other problem is getting traffic to her site.
For the first problem I suggested she focus on a few products in a particular niche. I gave her the example of targeting the travel niche because (more…)

In part 1 of, How to Create a Spending Plan (or Budget) I discussed the importance of having a spending plan to know where your money is going and avoid unnecessary stress. If you don’t have a plan you will not have money left over for emergencies, special purchases, or holidays.
The first two steps of creating a spending plan is to find out how much you earn and tracking your expenses. Now here are the next three steps. (more…)

Most people live paycheck to paycheck, and spend what they want whenever they want. But if you keep up that pattern long enough, you’ll soon discover that the money runs out before you’ve paid all the bills, and there is never any left over for emergencies, special purchases or holidays. To get control of your household spending and start saving you will need to set up a household spending plan.
A Spending Plan
The thought of having to stick to a spending plan might make you cringe. It sounds restrictive and boring. But if you are serious about creating wealth, a spending plan can actually give you freedom. You will have control over your finances, know where your money is going, and have a plan to reach your financial goals. Not spending on a few things that you can do without right now means you will be able to spend on larger, more important purchases in the future.
Here are some easy household spending plan strategies you can use to get started. (more…)

According to Madame Noire, the answer is yes and I agree 100%. I just had this conversation with my daughter this morning. It’s simply not smart to rely on one source of income.
The article, All Career Women Must Have a Side Hustle puts it this way:
“For every woman still being held at will by present circumstance, I say create new ones. Stop thinking of hustling as a competition with others and start thinking of it as a way to challenge yourself to step into who you know you can be. I chose at the start of this year to out hustle the shadows of fear and failure nipping at my heels. Now, I spend my days stomping them further and futher down on my way up to the best version of the Madame I’m meant to be.”
So what are you going to do? If you’ve been reading this blog any length of time you’ve seen plenty of articles on side hustles. I suggest taking these last few months of 2010 to really think about starting a side gig in 2011.

This has been a great week so far. Sunday night I was a guest on the CoParenting Matters show on Blogtalk Radio. The hosts were Deesha Philyaw of Coparenting101.com and Talibah Mbonisi of WeParent.com. Annie Fox, author of several books for middle school kids was the other guest. You can listen to the show archive to hear what we talked about.
On Monday I found out that I was the 13th winner (more…)
